A court in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala on Monday awarded a death sentence to 24-year-old Greeshma SS, who was found guilty of murdering her boyfriend in 2022.

As per Bar&Bench, she was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for abduction and an additional five years for trying to mislead the investigation.

The Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court also sentenced her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, another accused in the case, to three years of imprisonment.

According to the reports, the 24-year-old convict, Greeshma, had sought leniency in sentencing by citing her academic achievements, lack of prior criminal history, and the fact that she is her parents' only daughter.

The crime unfolded on October 14, 2022, when Greeshma offered Sharon a poisoned drink when he came to visit her at her place in Ramavarmanchirai, Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu.

A Crime Branch special investigation team, led by DySP Johnson, took over the case on October 30, 2022. Greeshma was arrested the following day, and her mother and uncle were arrested on charges of abetting the crime and destroying evidence.
